14 Days in Japan | Day 6: Miyagi Zao Fox Village

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Finally, another thing to strike off my Japan bucket list! I love all kinds of animals, so I was super excited to see some foxes today. Not only can you walk with them, but you can also pet them!
Foxes are softer than you think! They're like dog-cats.

To get to the Fox Village from TOKYO:

1) Get to TOKYO Station.
2) Take the Shinkansen towards SENDAI.
** I recommend reserving a seat. You can do this at the ticket kiosk with your JR pass.
3) Get off at Shiroishizao station.
4) You can ask the people at the ticket office to phone a taxi for you. Just say you want to go to Fox Village!
5) Taxi fare was about ¥4000 (about $40) for one way when we went.
*** some words to know ***
Kitsune = Fox
Takushii = Taxi

While it was amazing seeing these beautiful animals up close, it's important to keep in mind that Japan has different animal rights than North America.

They had an animal care facility on sight, and the free roam area was quite large. There were many foxes in cages though... And a bunch of other random animals. Because there were so many foxes in one place, many got into little fights over food or territory. Just make sure to follow the rules!

But I got to hold some foxes so I'm over the moon happy with today! I just wish we could have the best of both worlds you know?

There was also a nice gentleman who let us hold a baby goat. Part of the facility is a petting zoo with bunnies, etc.

Creepy goats...
